President's Welcome Letter

Dear Neighbors,

Founded by big-hearted and caring women in 1958, International Neighbors continues

going strong as it enters its 68th year. The initial model of informal gatherings of

neighborhood groups, specifically catering to international women affiliated with the

University of Michigan, has evolved over time into a vibrant and diverse community.

Our 850 + members, who include 439 individuals active in our small groups, represent

60 nations, or about one-third of the world’s recognized 195 countries. In the last year

alone, we welcomed 96 new members from 24 countries.

We are an active organization thanks to the work of our many volunteers. With our

International Neighbors Day committee, we host nine monthly meetings each year,

including our Open House, our Winter Welcome, and our annual meeting. Of particular

interest in the coming year will be our IN Days on Turkey and Folklore around the

World. Over thirty activity groups headed by volunteer leaders are up and running--

conversation, discussion, reading, special interests and tea groups. Due to demand, we

are adding a movement group and another tea group as well. In addition, volunteers

oversee the International Neighbors Evening Edition, as well as pop-up events. Finally,

our dedicated board members help keep all of this activity running smoothly.

While participation in International Neighbors remains free-of-cost for our members, as

it always has been, and even though we are volunteer-run, there are expenses that

must be met. Last year, about 25% of our members generously responded to our

annual appeal for funding, donating just over $5,000. I am asking you today to help at a

level affordable to you. We will welcome each and every contribution.

I look forward to meeting old friends, and new friends, this coming year!

Thank You.

Stephanie Bunker, Interim President, International Neighbors
