May Newsletter

Cherry Blossom Festival
Cherry Blossom Festival

As we enjoy the (so far) beautiful May days this year, we are all making plans for the summer and winding down the group activities we had during the Fall and Winter at International Neighbors. Some groups will continue during the Summer but many will take a break to renew and re-energize for next Fall.

As it has become our practice at this time of the year, in order to inform our members of all the work our volunteers have accomplished this year, each area coordinator, committee leader and officers wrote brief Annual Reports. These reports help make our organization more transparent to all our members and let all of you familiarize yourselves with the work being done, in case you would like to volunteer yourself. We always welcome more help!

Our president, Veronica, has her own President’s Report where you can follow her work this past year and her vision for the next.

The end of this year’s activities for International Neighbors will culminate at the 67th Annual Membership Meeting and Lunch on May 22, from 12 to 2 pm, at Venue Restaurant (see the poster for the event below for more information).

During the event, we will elect next year’s IN officers, give out Volunteer Recognition Awards, and enjoy a catered lunch.

As we mentioned last week, this year we will recognize the contributions of four amazing ladies to International Neighbors! Get to know and read more about these ladies as we present our inaugural Volunteer Recognition Awards to:

These four ladies are remarkable and very deserving of their recognition, but we have a big  organization and I would like to take the opportunity to mention other members who are also worthy of your attention.

In “Happy Birthday May!, I write about our gathering to celebrate May’s 103rd birthday. Check out the photos and watch a short video, Densho, about how she influenced the next generations of her family. Inspiring!

Veena would like all to know that the memory care where Ann Steiger, one of our Founding Mothers, is staying is now called Clarendale (It used to be called Belfour). Visits are welcome but please call first to make an appointment.

Being the end of the year/cycle here at International Neighbors, we know many of you are moving back to your home countries or out of the Ann Arbor area. Please update your information on our website. It’s very important that we have your updated information so we can keep the Membership List accurate! Questions? Please contact us at info@international-neighbors.org

We are always working to improve and update all aspects of International Neighbors. Four years ago we changed our website and this summer we will start consolidating our membership list under one platform. By Fall, all our communications will go through this one platform, so we need you to be registered on our website. If you have registered on our website on or after 2021, you are all set. For those who still haven’t done that, this is the time to do it. Please read the explanation of what is going to happen in “Important Update: Register Now on Our Website!”

One last change at the end of this year/cycle, I am stepping down as Newsletter editor. Thank you to all members who contributed to the Newsletter this year. We couldn’t have made it without you! And thank you to all our readers - current and past members!
